We have more Champions League action to entertain you this week as Manchester City take on Monaco, and last season’s beaten finalists Atletico Madrid head to Germany. Over at AppBet we’ve taken a look at the best bets for each game.
Bayer Leverkusen v Atletico Madrid
It’s déjà vu for Atletico Madrid in the last-16 of the Champions League, as once again it’s German side Bayer Leverkusen who are the team standing in their way of progression to the next round of the competition.
Progressing to the knockout stages by finishing top of their group, ahead of the Bayern Munich side that thrashed Arsenal 5-1 in their tie last week, it certainly seems as though their European form has been outweighing their domestic form this time round.
Conceding only two goals in the Champions League so far this season, they picked up five straight victories, four of them being by one clear goal. Add to that, since the start of 2016 they have never scored more than one goal away from home in this competition, we feel a 1-0 win priced 11/2 looks a strong bet.
Leverkusen may have something to say about Atletico keeping 25 clean sheets in 42 Champions League games, having scored against Spanish opposition in their last 11 home games in this competition. However, despite being unbeaten in their group, they only managed to pick up two victories, and historically with this tie ending in a draw, under 2.5 goals at 8/15 looks a strong bet.
In the goalscorer market, Javier Hernandez has only scored one goal in the Champions League this season, so we’d recommend staying clear of him in this game. Griezmann, however, has been involved in 54% of Atletico’s goals since last season, scoring ten. You can get odds of 13/8 for him to score anytime, and 9/2 for him to open the scoring.
Man City v Monaco
Pep Guardiola and Manchester City seem to have got their season back on track, stretching their unbeaten run to six games, and with a very favourable draw against Monaco, we feel this should be a very entertaining game.
Guardiola heads into this game unbeaten in every one of his last 16 ties as a coach and with City unbeaten in their last eight Champions League games odds of 8/13 do look very tempting.
Despite being three points clear at the top of Ligue 1 Monaco have lost five of their seven knockout games in Europe. A record you would not like to have when it comes to facing a side like Manchester City.
Both City and Monaco have only managed to keep one clean sheet in the Champions League this season, so the goals market definitely looks the strongest in the betting with over 2.5 goals priced at 8/13.
If you’re looking for a player to score, then we would avoid Sergio Aguero who has failed to find the back of the net in his last 522 minutes of Champions League football, and has only scored in one of his last six games. It looks as though Monaco man Bernardo Silva is the one to watch having bagged seven goals in his last fourteen European away appearances, odds of 7/2 look very tempting.
